Alumni Stories
We always love to hear stories of how our dogs and cats are doing. When
we become tired and life becomes difficult, reading stories from our alumni
helps to remind us of why we work so hard. We are so proud of how well our
little ones are doing that we wanted to share their stories.
If you have an Alumni Story you would like posted on our website, please send it
to the Webmaster. Let us know if you have digital photos and we'll
instruct you where to send them. If you have prints, we can scan
them and return them to you. Stories without photos are welcome too!

Angel (formerly
Spot) - May 5, 2008
Hi, Dick!
I think you used to know me as "Spot" but my new mom and dad changed my name to Angel.
I like that much better. In fact, I learned my name within a day or two of being in my new forever home.
Because I like my name better, I come when I'm called, especially when I think it's time to eat or get a really yummy treat!
I've been in my forever home for about two weeks now and I'm so happy to be here!
In fact, when I first got here, I really put Mom through her paces! I was just sooooo excited to be in my forever home that I wanted to play all the time, and I also tended to get into things I wasn't supposed to.
I guess I was afraid I would be sent away again and I just wanted to enjoy this while I could.
My first night here was nice, but I was really tired. I got to sleep on a mat in Mom and Dad's room and I was such a good doggy because I slept through the night and then let everybody know I needed to go out the next morning.
That weekend was really rainy so we couldn't walk, but we played and we played and we played...... a LOT!!! (I think I wore Mom out!)
I have some great chew toys, but they have this yummy fabric on them and I like to eat the strings.
For some reason, Mom has to put those toys up when I start eating the strings.
I don't understand that, do you?
When I first got here, I was also very afraid of the car.
I couldn't tell Mommy and Daddy, but I was really afraid that I would go back to the shelter again or that I would be sent way from my new home.
Mom was patient, though, and helped me through that. I heard her tell people that she probably looked like a real dork (whatever that is) because we would walk around the car, and the she would open the doors and get in and just sit there with her feet out.
At first, I wouldn't look at the car, sniff at it, and I never took treats from Mom when she was near the car because I thought I might be tricked.
A few days later, Mom and Dad sort of made me get in the car and we went to this really great place.
It has organic and natural dog food, toys, and water if I get thirsty.
This really nice lady named Kim always pets me and gives me treats when we go there, so I kind of like visiting her.
My other favorite place to go is Petsmart. There are neat smells, all sizes of people who pet me, and sometimes there are other dogs there that I can play with, too.
I kind of like going in the car now, and I even get in all by myself, which gets me lots of "good girls" from Mom and Dad.
We went to the vet on Saturday, and I was a very good girl (everybody said so) even if I did get two shots.
But I also got lots and lots of yummy treats from the nice people there!
I got in the car again later that day, so I'm still not scared of it.
Mom and Dad got a doggy type seat belt for the car yesterday, but we didn't like each other too much, so Dad got a different kind of doggy seat belt.
We haven't had a chance to try that out yet, though.
Besides going to the vet on Saturday, I also had a bath. I wasn't very happy about that and it took both Mommy and Daddy to hold me so I could be washed.
I finally got still but I was really happy when Mom turned the water off and I could get out of the big ole tub!
Of course, after I got washed, I felt so good that I ran all over the house, rolled on the carpet, and played and played!
I played hide and seek with Dad and that was fun. Mom had to settle us both down, though because she said we got too rowdy.
We sure had fun, even if we did get rowdy!
Since I've been here for a couple of weeks now, I now know the rules and I'm much better at obeying.
We are working on "sit, come, stay, lay down, and shake". I'm very good at all of those except "shake"; I just don't get that one.
I've also calmed down a lot because Mommy discovered that I love to look out the window in the computer room while she works.
It keeps me occupied until she gets through with her work. A little later in the morning, we get to go on a short walk and then we play.
I sleep a lot after that until the afternoon. When it gets close to time for Dad to come home, I get excited because I know it's almost time to eat.
And when these two legged people eat first, I usually let them know about it!
I'm learning that I soon get fed so I don't quite so impatient anymore.
After supper, Dad takes me on a longer walk and I get really excited when I see him put on his walking shoes.
Sometimes, if I'm not too tired, we all get to play again and that's really fun!
I do like to get on the couch and Mom says she doesn't really mind that, but Dad does, so she has to make me get off.
I will test her every morning with this, but I'm a good girl and get off of the couch when I'm told to--even if I don't like it very much.
This morning, Mom told me that one of my human sisters is coming home for a visit today.
That might excite me again, but as long as I know I'm staying here, I'll be fine.
I sleep in my crate at night, but I'd rather sleep next to Mom and Dad and what I'd really like to do is sleep on their bed, but Dad says that's a big no no.
When Mom goes out, she puts me in my crate and turns on the radio so I don't feel alone.
That's ok, but I'd rather have free run of the house. Mom and Dad don't seem to think I'm quite ready for that, though.
Mom has taken some pictures of me (I think I like getting my picture taken) and she is going to try to send them to you. I'm laying down on the floor by the couch, waiting on Mom to finish her computer work so we can go on our walk.
I'll see if Mom can send you a few pictures here and maybe she'll write you an e-mail later this morning and send some more pictures.
Thank you so much for finding me my forever home! I'm a happy dog now!
Time to rest up for my walk and later play sessions.
Woof Woof!

Frank (formerly Tate) - May 4, 2008

Karen,
It has been just over two weeks now and I thought I'd give you a quick
update. We have renamed Tate to Frank. I think he would answer
to anything as long as he is getting attention. He has been a perfect
dog for us, absolutely no complaints. Everyone stops us when we are
out and comments on how cute he is...they all think he looks like a baby
fox. He does very well with training and gets along with everyone
(especially dogs and kids). I'm so glad that we found each other and
that HART made this all possible. Thank you so much for fostering him
and helping bring us together.

Domino (formerly Augie) - May 3, 2008

Deanna,
Auggie's doing great. We renamed her to Domino and she's a wonderful
ENERGETIC addition to the family. We had to take her to the vet last
week for a parasite. I think it scared me more then it did her, she
was running around in no time. I've attached some pictures of her and
our Shih Tzu, Jack. Jack is incredibly overprotective of her.
Domino sleeps in her cage and Jack sits outside of it just staring at her
most of the night to make sure she's ok. Jack has to make sure Domino
has started to eat before he eats. It is really adorable, especially
considering he is half of her size. I hope things are going great with
you and all of your foster dogs. Thanks for thinking of us.
Please keep in touch!

Charlie (formerly Gay) - April 28, 2008

Hi, all,
I just wanted to let you know that we had a wonderful first day and night.
Charlie is a beautiful, sweet, wonderful dog -- no chewing at all, goes
right into the crate, "asks" before jumping up on the couch or bed...
She's already responding to leash training -- sitting at intersections (with
the help of treats), comes when you prompt, that kind of thing. She's
absolutely delightful and playful and gentle.
My son is in heaven!
Thank you all!

Buck (formerly Blinken) - April 24, 2008
Hi
Bonnie!
Not sure if you remember me, but I took Blinken (now Buck) off your hands
nearly a year ago now. I just wanted to pass along an update on how
well he's doing. We moved up to Anchorage, Alaska in January and he
absolutely loves the snow. Of course that's nearly all melted now and
everything in sludge and muck. He's enjoying that a lot less since he ends
up getting hosed down in the tub pretty often to get the mud off after he's
been playing. LOL!
He's also in herding classes on Wednesday nights. He really loves it and is
pretty good at it already (he's only had a couple classes). Anyway, here a
link to all his pictures and a few more to some videos I made of him - one
to celebrate him being a year old and a couple others that I took last week
at his herding class. Thanks for all your wonderful work. I can't imagine my
life without him.
Thanks again,
Laura

Nelly - April 23, 2008
Note
from HART:
Nelly was just adopted. Here is a photo of her with her new owner – we
have gotten great reports that she is very happy and they are overjoyed with
their adoption! |
Elena - April 20, 2008
 Hi
Dick,
It was nice to see you last night.
Attached are two of my favorite Elena pictures. One is just a happy
dog, and one is of my daughter coddling her baby.
We have had Elena now nearly two years, and she has been a joy to all of us,
but especially my daughter.
Thanks for all,
Bev |
Layla (formerly
Taylor) - April 17, 2008
Hi there Gale!
Taylor (AKA Layla) is doing wonderfully. She is such a sweet girl -- we absolutely adore her! She has finally in the last 6 months gotten comfortable with the concept of snuggling with us. At first, she was jumpy and it was as if she was taught at some point that snuggling was not acceptable, especially in bed at night. But now, she hops up and plops down as if that was what she always had done.
She and our puggle, Chester, go to the dog park just about every day after I get home from work, and 95% of the time she gets along perfectly with all the other doggies (and always says hello to all the people as well, hoping to find a sucker to pet her endlessly!)
I have attached a few more pictures -- thank you again for helping me bring Layla into our home!
Kim |
Chivas (formerly Alex) - April 7, 2008
Hi
Michael,
Just wanted to send you a picture and let you know that Chivas is having the
time of his life. We fenced in a part of the yard so he is getting
plenty of exercise and he has three friends to enjoy it with. Our little
Jack Russell, Bailey, seems to be the one that plays with him the most but
the others are starting to come around. All of this activity is giving
him a huge appetite but that's OK. We are trying to get some more
weight on him anyway and he is making it easy for us.
Once again, Thank You for all that you and HART have done to see that this
sweet and beautiful dog was given the chance to live and be loved. To
think that the shelter he was in two weeks ago was ready to give up on him
is heartbreaking. We plan on making it up to him for the rest of his
life.
Sincerely,
Kim |
Noelle - April 7, 2008
All
the recent alumni updates have finally prodded me into sending my own story.
Noelle came to HART in December 07, left at the vet to be euthanized at the
age of 12. Seems her family never spayed her, and surprise! she got
mammary cancer. After two major surgeries and a lot of spoiling to
bring her out of her depression, she is doing great. A proud
foster-failure, I adopted her in February. Her favorite activities are
sleeping, barking for treats, sleeping, barking at the mailman, sleeping,
barking at the air... what a character. All four dogs and the two cats
get along fine. Thanks for rescuing her!
Julie |
Taz, Shadow & Alice - April 6, 2008
I
was reading the alumni stories and thought I would pass along a picture of
my three HART dogs, clockwise from the top is Taz adopted around 2003,
Shadow adopted in 2005, and Alice adopted almost a year ago (all three
started off as fosters). They are all getting up there (9-ish, 13-ish,
and 14-ish respectively). Note that MY side of the bed is the one
where everyone is laying. I think I slept on the other side that
night. Heaven forbid my babies should be inconvenienced!
Cathy |
Timmy - April 5, 2008

 Hello!
We wanted to give you an update on Timmy and share some pictures of his
latest adventures!
We love Timmy and are so glad that HART introduced us! Now we are able
to introduce everyone to Timmy's awesome self :)
Timmy
has become quite the rambunctious little fellow and everyone at the dog park
laughs when he starts to howl as he chases the other dogs. He is very
good with other dogs as you can see from the shot of Timmy and his little
friend, Sally, who visited with us for a week. Timmy is also very good
at humoring us, especially with the reindeer antlers during the holiday
season :)
He loves his belly rubs and anything edible, recently it has been bunny poop
... we have been working on "leave it," but apparently the yumminess of
bunny poop is much too good to pass up, even for a legitimate treat!
We look forward to sharing more great memories together :)
Thank you for all of your hard work!
Timmy, Tucker and Min Hee |
Maddox
(formerly Patrick) - April 1, 2008

Hi Gale,
As always, it was great to hear from you. You and HART have been in our thoughts frequently. We even brought Maddox to Greenbriar a few weeks ago hoping to see you or Tammy. Even though we didn’t see you, it was nice to see another successful adoption event.
Life couldn’t be better for us now that we have Maddox! With each passing day, we find that we love him more and more. It’s hard to realize that we’ve only had him for six months; we feel as if he’s always been a part of our family. Anyone that’s met Maddox knows how impossible it is ignore his incredible cuddly sweetness. Warm and playful, Maddox stands up to great hugs and twirls on his hind legs for treats. Aware of the tragic scene from which he was rescued, we had to learn how to discipline ourselves from spoiling him too much! Still, who could deny anything to that adorable face? When we first drove with him in the car, we just thought he was excited to be going to his new home… we were so surprised to learn that joy riding in the car is one of his favorite things to do! Belly rubs and ear massages are another family favorite and we often find ourselves fighting over who gets to nap with Maddox on the couch. Walking around the neighborhood is a special treat when children greet him and talk about his gentle nature. The best thing we’ve discovered about Maddox is the loyalty and unconditional love he shares with us every day. Thank you Gale, Tammy, and HART for helping us complete our family!
Cheers,
Melissa & Kevin |
Noelle and Katie - March 31, 2008
At
the Super Pet Expo this weekend, two Billie Jo pups had a chance encounter.
I have Noelle (as many of you know), but we ran into her sister Katie.
This was pretty extraordinary as Katie lives in Maryland and the expo was in
Virginia. In comparing notes, both girls are very sweet, love all dogs
that they come in contact with and bear a striking resemblance to their
mother. I've attached a picture for your enjoyment!
Thanks!

Neo and Eddie - March 29, 2008

It has been just over a month now that both Eddie and Neo joined our family.
Needless to say, it has not been dull. Neo, who it was thought to be
an active pup, has turned out to be a big couch potato; while Eddie morphed
from a supposed docile hound to a rambunctious, drooly mutt who loves to
seek out trouble. It's difficult to say who might be a favorite
because they have both wormed themselves into our hearts. Including
our "Lucy" who thinks dog slobber is yuck!
Though Neo and Eddie had never met before joining our household, they took
to each other as if they had been litter mates, and are inseparable. Our 12
year old female Dobie "Liesl" took them both under her direction as mom, and
loves to play and order them around. She and Eddie occassionally
discuss who will be Alpha. But, Liesl remains "Top Dog".
Neo is very quiet; he does not bark or whine with the exception of a slight
yap once or twice when playing in the yard. Neo's one vice at the
moment is that he can destroy anything he sets his teeth too. While
the yard has been cleaned many times, Neo continues to find things to chew,
such as the deck and a newly unopened Toaster Oven box, promptly detaching
the cord from the oven. Well, we weren't using it yet anyway.
Eddie, now there's a challenge. Eddie loves to spring 4 to 5 feet in
the air from a stand still as if he is spring loaded. Although, he's
not yet into catching a Frisbee. He has also made the hot tub cover
his sun bathing mat. It's good we keep this covered or he would be
taking swimming lessons, as well. I have no doubt he would love the
water. But, we'll refrain from this at the moment. Eddie also
likes to chew your feet or anything else when playing. I have to
remind him that I don't have extra fur and skin to tug on, and that his nips
leave bruises. But, after a few weeks, he is getting much better
remembering this. Eddie is a true hound. He sneaks off to hunt
toys or clothes. Both he and Neo are still learning to not eat the
toys. Our grandson has begun to tell them "no" in a resounding yell
whenever they trespass into his territory.
As for the grandson, he and Liesl have had a game of running a circle around
the connecting rooms in the evening. He has now indoctrinated all
three dogs into this ritual. They take turns chasing each other.
Again, as it turns out, Eddie is the livelier adventurer of the two.
So, he and the grandson seem to play more. Neo is still rather shy
from noises and chaos. Just plain and simple, Neo likes his couch.
Which, between the three of them, there is no longer any room for humans to
share a seat.
I'm certain we will have more stories to tell as time passes. But, the
overall message here is that these two were a perfect addition to our home.
It's definitely more work, but, with so much reward. I thank the
dedicated volunteers at H.A.R.T. for putting their effort and time into
saving these two loving spirits, and also thank them for taking a chance on
our family. Neo and Eddie seem to love it here, and it's as if they've
always been with us. Thank you all!
Theresa |
Shelby (formerly Edie) - March 26, 2008
Shelby's
(Edie's new name) first weekend was great!! Shelby seems to be
adjusting really well to her new surroundings and siblings. She almost
made it home without getting sick but the poor thing did have an upset tummy
within a mile of the house.
I took your advice and introduced her to her new siblings in the back yard
and after they all finished sniffing one another we went inside. Maggie and
her love to chase and wrestle both inside and out. And Marley
participates from the sidelines, barking and wagging his tail. As for
Truman (cat) they have been in the same room but Shelby seems to have little
interest.
Shelby enjoys walking on a leash when we walk her with Maggie. So, that is
what we are doing now. She also likes to play in the backyard with Maggie
and Marley so we take them out a few times per day.
She is a good girl at night. No crying, no accidents. She's had a few
accidents in the house but most of the time she goes outside. We have
identified a pattern of when she goes in the house (after a hard play with
her sister and after a nap) so we try to bring her outside right after these
"triggers."
She's eating well and has found her "spot" when we all sit down as a family
for dinner.
Again, so far, Shelby is doing wonderful!! We love her dearly.
Pat |
Sam (formerly Otis) - March 26, 2008
We
are calling him Sam and he's definitely started responding to the name, so I
think he likes it :) We've also been working with him on stay and sit
and he's doing very well! We definitely almost have "sit"
down--especially if we use treats! Sam and Bailey also seem to
becoming close friends and I think they enjoy having each other's company
during the day.
Sam's been a great little walker and we even took him to the monthly
Shirlington pug meet-up this past Saturday, which he seemed to enjoy.
He really is great with other dogs and people.
We truly are thrilled with him and love him dearly. He's been a great
addition to our family! Thank you again for thinking of us and
introducing him to us!

Kaia (formerly Kya) - March 14, 2008

 |
Sigfried - March 13, 2008

Thank
you for saving Sigfried aka Ziggy for us. He has been with us for just 5
days and already is part of our hearts and family. He is a total doll and
everyone, both canine and human, who meets him falls in love. Thank you
thank you thank you.
Siegfried's new family - Tricia, Fred, Kate, and Kim |
Titan - March 12, 2008

Titan is a wonderful puppy! We knew he was the perfect one for us the
second we met him. He has been an absolute pleasure to train and is
the sweetest, most mellow puppy anyone has ever seen. He is very smart
and knows just how to get what he wants. He is spoiled by his many fans
especially his Grandma who schedules quality time with him on a weekly
basis, if not more often.
Titan is a little angel, too. He hardly ever barks; even our letter
carrier is impressed! He doesn't love the car yet, but he's working on
it. He likes to go out to the Virginia wineries and visit with other
dogs. He's made so many friends! He also loves to play with his
plush toys; the squeakier the better! He's a big eater just like the
rest of the family. He loves to spend his evenings with Mom and Dad, a
yummy bone, American Idol, and a warm blanket. We're a very happy
family!
Thanks to the wonderful people at HART, especially Bonnie, Titan was rescued
and given a chance to find his forever home with us! We couldn't be
more grateful! |
Maggie - March 11, 2008

Here are a few pictures of Maggie. She is doing great, she had her
spay surgery on the 3rd and is doing well. She pretty much slept the
first few days but now is pretty much back to her old self.
Again, thank you both for everything.

 |
Pantera - March 9, 2008
We adopted Pantera in August of 2006. Since then she has watched
Kenny and I get married, has moved with us to our new home in Aldie, and is
now a "big sister" to our daughter Lilyanne. She has been such a blessing in
our lives and wanted to thank HART for making that possible! |
Alex - February
15, 2008

We started out fostering Alex back on Labor Day weekend 2007. After 2 weeks we fell in love with him but he received many applications and eventually went to a family mid Sept 2007.
After one week the family gave him back and HART asked us to foster him again, and we said NO, because this time, we wanted to make our home his FOREVER home!
We adopted Alex at the end of Sept 2007. During his 5 months with us, he has been featured as one of the
neighborhood pets. We walk him 2 to 3 times a day and he knows most of the neighborhood
dogs.
He's a recent graduate of Old Town School of Dogs in Alexandria. His trainer said that he is an extremely intelligent dog.
Alex enjoys playing with our niece and nephew! He's very good with the neighborhood kids and enjoys watching the neighborhood from the front glass door.
He enjoys walking to the train station at the end of the day because he gets to see Dave come off the train.
He loves to run and jump and will soon start Agility Training in April.
Watch for Alex at the Agility Competitions! Thanks HART for such a wonderful family addition!

Alfie - February
4, 2008
I adopted Alfie a little over 8 years ago and it was love at first
sight. He has just gotten more loving year after year. He is a
Foxhound mix and although we had always had Labs, he was just so beautiful
- I decided to adopt him. Alfie and I quickly got into the habit of
walking 2 miles around our Reston lake in the mornings before work and on
weekends. We met so many great dogs and their people. I had
recently moved to Reston when I got Alfie and he helped me to get to know
lots of people because he was so friendly and people always wanted to stop
and pet him. Thank you HART for giving me such a great dog and many
wonderful years (and many more to come-I hope). I have made HART my
United Way designee for the past few years and will continue to do so. |
Mattie - February 1, 2008
 Gale,
I just wanted to give you a status report on Mattie. She is doing well
and is now 35 lbs. I believe that we are all well adjusted to one
another now. We also have the housebreaking thing down. I wanted
to also thank you for all of your assistance during the adoption process.
Pam and I greatly appreciate your help.
Rich |
Tink - January 30, 2008
Tink
is doing great. We are working toward Canine Good Citizen certification,
which has been an adventure so far. You know how
strong-willed she is. But she also really enjoys working, so keeping her in
classes has been beneficial, I think. She loves to run and we take her as
often as we can. And of course she still loves playing catch - she's gotten
pretty good at catching tennis balls after the first bounce.
My in-laws visited in December and brought their Cockapoo puppy, Taffy.
Those two had an absolute blast. The attached photo shows them during a rare
restful moment! I'm also attaching one from the snow storm in December. She
seems confused. :)
Are you fostering any dogs these days? We are still thinking about
another dog. We check HART frequently... and I think when we find the
right dog, we'll definitely adopt again. I think it would make Tink very
happy to have a playmate - she so enjoys hanging out with other dogs
(particularly herding dogs) at the park and doggy daycare. |
Pinky - January 28, 2008
Pinky's
such a joy! She loves our male greyhound and follows him everywhere!
She's stolen all of his toys from him and keeps them upstairs where he can't
get to them, but he doesn't seem to mind, although he tries to curl up in
her little dog bed, which is hysterical (he's 70 pounds compared to her 20!)
She enjoys her daily walks and is eating well and sleeps with us at night.
She's only had a few accidents in the house, but she's doing great on the
house training. She's such a cutie pie - thanks so much!
Alisa and Steve |
Kaia (formerly Kya) - January 20, 2008
Hello Dick,
Not sure if you remember Kaia (formerly Kya) but we wanted to send you an update
and some photos. She is doing great and so very spoiled!
She seems to have completely settled into the house and has made friends
with the neighborhood dogs and cats. She's very active with walks,
hikes and running with us. We took her to the beach this summer and
she ran for miles. All in all, a perfect fit for all of us. We love
her to death and can't imagine not having her in our lives.
Thanks for everything you and the HART staff did and continue to do for
these pets.
Norma, Cindy & Kaia |
Frankie - January 15, 2008
 Sandy,
Great hearing from you. Things are going great with Frankie. As much as I
love him I must admit it doesn't even begin to compare with how much he
loves me. He follows me into every room and remains by me at all times. He
is incredibly obedient, intelligent, and loving. He has done a GREAT job at
changing peoples minds about Pit Bulls. Specifically my mother. On
Christmas Eve Frankie and I spent the night at my parents house so we could
be with them in the morning for coffee (just me) and gifts (both of us). Our
Christmas morning tradition is to have coffee and cinnamon rolls. It's easy,
relaxing, and delicious. Well, my Mom wakes up in the morning and after we
were all getting out coffee, she proceeds to go into the kitchen and fixes
Frankie a HUGE t-bone steak. Needless to say he loved it and demolished it
bone and all.
I have attached a recent photo of Frankie in his winter sweater. Ha! I
never thought I would ever put one on my dog but it's funny how you get
really soft when you start loving a pet. Frankie is truly a great pet.
I hope you and everyone at H.A.R.T are doing great and had a great New Year! |
Charlie (formerly Obie) - January 2, 2008
It has been almost 5 years since we took Charlie into our home after an
adoption day at a Petco in Fairfax. He was just a sick little puppy at
the time but he has grown into an amazing and healthy dog. He is
beloved by so many friends and family in his forever home. We can't
thank HART enough!
Charlie has been leading quite the life (www.dogster.com). He's covered the East Coast of the USA from a lakehouse in Maine down to a
catamaran trip in the FL Keys, always arriving at his destination by car
because we are afraid to let him fly.
His passions in life are chasing balls, keeping the mail/UPS/FedEx reps
honest, swimming at the dog beach in Annapolis, and boating with his family.
We recently did a doggie DNA test on Charlie to finally put to rest our
ongoing discussion of his breed mix. We discovered Charlie is mostly lab,
and part beagle and doberman - link attached if anyone wants to try it
(www.mmigenomics.com/CHBTKits/order.php).
We look forward to many more years with Charlie, and hopefully seeing our
friends at HART at the next Art Auction.

Tess - January 1, 2008

We first adopted Tess back in April 2006. She was 3 1/2 years old at
the time. Tess was with foster parents for about 4 months when we
spotted her at a HART adoption day at Petsmart in Lewisville. She took
to my husband and I instantly, much to the surprise of the foster parents.
True to her Terrier/Chihuahua breed, she likes to think she's the alpha dog
and takes awhile to warm up to people. Tess was welcomed by our 5 year
old bearded collie, Peggy Lee, and their lives have been enriched since.
Tess likes to cuddle up in bed and on the couch and is an affectionate and a
very well-behaved little lady. She shadows me everyday like my
personal watch dog.
About 6 months ago, we also adopted a Yorkie/Schnauzer mix named Opie.
He's our first male dog. Opie has been fixed as a condition of his
adoption, but that hasn't put a crimp in his boyish rambunction and charm.
Opie is just about two. All three dogs love to play, but since Opie is
more Tess's size, the two of them get along especially well, always play
fighting and having fun chasing each other around the house and our yard.
Tess is our little girl and we can't imagine our lives without her. We
just wanted to share our joy. |
