Alumni Stories Continued...
Charlie (formerly Gay) - April 28, 2008

Hi, all,
I just wanted to let you know that we had a wonderful first day and night.
Charlie is a beautiful, sweet, wonderful dog -- no chewing at all, goes
right into the crate, "asks" before jumping up on the couch or bed...
She's already responding to leash training -- sitting at intersections (with
the help of treats), comes when you prompt, that kind of thing. She's
absolutely delightful and playful and gentle.
My son is in heaven!
Thank you all!

Buck (formerly Blinken) - April 24, 2008
Hi
Bonnie!
Not sure if you remember me, but I took Blinken (now Buck) off your hands
nearly a year ago now. I just wanted to pass along an update on how
well he's doing. We moved up to Anchorage, Alaska in January and he
absolutely loves the snow. Of course that's nearly all melted now and
everything in sludge and muck. He's enjoying that a lot less since he ends
up getting hosed down in the tub pretty often to get the mud off after he's
been playing. LOL!
He's also in herding classes on Wednesday nights. He really loves it and is
pretty good at it already (he's only had a couple classes). Anyway, here a
link to all his pictures and a few more to some videos I made of him - one
to celebrate him being a year old and a couple others that I took last week
at his herding class. Thanks for all your wonderful work. I can't imagine my
life without him.
Thanks again,
Laura

Nelly - April 23, 2008
Note
from HART:
Nelly was just adopted. Here is a photo of her with her new owner – we
have gotten great reports that she is very happy and they are overjoyed with
their adoption! |
Elena - April 20, 2008
 Hi
Dick,
It was nice to see you last night.
Attached are two of my favorite Elena pictures. One is just a happy
dog, and one is of my daughter coddling her baby.
We have had Elena now nearly two years, and she has been a joy to all of us,
but especially my daughter.
Thanks for all,

Layla (formerly
Taylor) - April 17, 2008
Hi there Gale!
Taylor (AKA Layla) is doing wonderfully. She is such a sweet girl -- we absolutely adore her! She has finally in the last 6 months gotten comfortable with the concept of snuggling with us. At first, she was jumpy and it was as if she was taught at some point that snuggling was not acceptable, especially in bed at night. But now, she hops up and plops down as if that was what she always had done.
She and our puggle, Chester, go to the dog park just about every day after I get home from work, and 95% of the time she gets along perfectly with all the other doggies (and always says hello to all the people as well, hoping to find a sucker to pet her endlessly!)
I have attached a few more pictures -- thank you again for helping me bring Layla into our home!

Chivas (formerly Alex) - April 7, 2008
Hi
Michael,
Just wanted to send you a picture and let you know that Chivas is having the
time of his life. We fenced in a part of the yard so he is getting
plenty of exercise and he has three friends to enjoy it with. Our little
Jack Russell, Bailey, seems to be the one that plays with him the most but
the others are starting to come around. All of this activity is giving
him a huge appetite but that's OK. We are trying to get some more
weight on him anyway and he is making it easy for us.
Once again, Thank You for all that you and HART have done to see that this
sweet and beautiful dog was given the chance to live and be loved. To
think that the shelter he was in two weeks ago was ready to give up on him
is heartbreaking. We plan on making it up to him for the rest of his
life.
Sincerely,
Kim |
Noelle - April 7, 2008
All
the recent alumni updates have finally prodded me into sending my own story.
Noelle came to HART in December 07, left at the vet to be euthanized at the
age of 12. Seems her family never spayed her, and surprise! she got
mammary cancer. After two major surgeries and a lot of spoiling to
bring her out of her depression, she is doing great. A proud
foster-failure, I adopted her in February. Her favorite activities are
sleeping, barking for treats, sleeping, barking at the mailman, sleeping,
barking at the air... what a character. All four dogs and the two cats
get along fine. Thanks for rescuing her!

Taz, Shadow & Alice - April 6, 2008
I
was reading the alumni stories and thought I would pass along a picture of
my three HART dogs, clockwise from the top is Taz adopted around 2003,
Shadow adopted in 2005, and Alice adopted almost a year ago (all three
started off as fosters). They are all getting up there (9-ish, 13-ish,
and 14-ish respectively). Note that MY side of the bed is the one
where everyone is laying. I think I slept on the other side that
night. Heaven forbid my babies should be inconvenienced!

Timmy - April 5, 2008

 Hello!
We wanted to give you an update on Timmy and share some pictures of his
latest adventures!
We love Timmy and are so glad that HART introduced us! Now we are able
to introduce everyone to Timmy's awesome self :)
Timmy
has become quite the rambunctious little fellow and everyone at the dog park
laughs when he starts to howl as he chases the other dogs. He is very
good with other dogs as you can see from the shot of Timmy and his little
friend, Sally, who visited with us for a week. Timmy is also very good
at humoring us, especially with the reindeer antlers during the holiday
season :)
He loves his belly rubs and anything edible, recently it has been bunny poop
... we have been working on "leave it," but apparently the yumminess of
bunny poop is much too good to pass up, even for a legitimate treat!
We look forward to sharing more great memories together :)
Thank you for all of your hard work!

Maddox
(formerly Patrick) - April 1, 2008

Hi Gale,
As always, it was great to hear from you. You and HART have been in our thoughts frequently. We even brought Maddox to Greenbriar a few weeks ago hoping to see you or Tammy. Even though we didn’t see you, it was nice to see another successful adoption event.
Life couldn’t be better for us now that we have Maddox! With each passing day, we find that we love him more and more. It’s hard to realize that we’ve only had him for six months; we feel as if he’s always been a part of our family. Anyone that’s met Maddox knows how impossible it is ignore his incredible cuddly sweetness. Warm and playful, Maddox stands up to great hugs and twirls on his hind legs for treats. Aware of the tragic scene from which he was rescued, we had to learn how to discipline ourselves from spoiling him too much! Still, who could deny anything to that adorable face? When we first drove with him in the car, we just thought he was excited to be going to his new home… we were so surprised to learn that joy riding in the car is one of his favorite things to do! Belly rubs and ear massages are another family favorite and we often find ourselves fighting over who gets to nap with Maddox on the couch. Walking around the neighborhood is a special treat when children greet him and talk about his gentle nature. The best thing we’ve discovered about Maddox is the loyalty and unconditional love he shares with us every day. Thank you Gale, Tammy, and HART for helping us complete our family!
Cheers,
Melissa & Kevin |
Noelle and Katie - March 31, 2008
At
the Super Pet Expo this weekend, two Billie Jo pups had a chance encounter.
I have Noelle (as many of you know), but we ran into her sister Katie.
This was pretty extraordinary as Katie lives in Maryland and the expo was in
Virginia. In comparing notes, both girls are very sweet, love all dogs
that they come in contact with and bear a striking resemblance to their
mother. I've attached a picture for your enjoyment!
Thanks!
