HART's Cat Adoption Fee is $125.

This $125 fee covers a number of services to provide you with a healthy pet.  HART cats have been altered, and receive a Rabies vaccine, Distemper vaccine, and are tested Negative for Feline Leukemia and FIV.  As the information below shows, our Adoption Fee is less than what you would pay for these services individually!

Cat Veterinary Care Fees

A random survey conducted in December 2005 of Northern Virginia Veterinary Clinics provided the following price ranges for the services indicated.

Office Visit        $36 - $58

Sterilization of Rescue Animals is mandated by Commonwealth Law

Neuter (Male)

$80 - $200

Spay (Female)

$136 - $365

These fees do not include pre-screening, post-surgical drugs or antibiotic medications, or extended hospitalization for complications.

Immunizations/Vaccines

Rabies (1year/3year)

$14 - $35

Distemper (FVRCP or RCCP)

$15 - $39

Feline Leukemia

$15 - $38

Parasite Screen and Medication      $26 - $51

Feline Leukemia/FIV Combo test       $39 - $66

Flea/Tick preventative for 12 months   $60 - $180

Dental Prophylaxis    $140 - $375

Nails   $7 - $18

Ear Cleaning    $15 - $30

Check ears for mites   $18 – $35

Ear mite medication   $8 - $31

DAILY Boarding fees    $14 - $28

In summary, if we look at the most conservative estimate of what you'd have to pay for the services generally covered by HART, we'd find:

Cat Services covered by HART The Adopter pays Difference
Female Domestic Short Hair  $136 spay
+   36 office visit
+   14 rabies
+   15 FVRCP
+   15 parasite screening
+   39 Feline Leukemia/FIV combo test
+     7 Nails

+   15 Ear cleaning
+     5 Flea preventative (1 month)
------------------
$282 + post-op drugs + boarding, etc.
$125 $157 +

Of course, these numbers do not reflect many of the day to day health issues that our cats face.  For example, if the test for parasites comes back showing that the cat has roundworms, we will pay to treat the cat.
