Arlington, Wakefield Area

Update 5/7/08: A new way you can
help in the search for Billy: Sponsor an Ad!
Update 5/2/08: Tammy has
confirmed 2 sightings of Billy in the Wakefield area yesterday: 12th and
S. George Mason Drive and near South Edison, 1/2 block from S. George Mason Dr. She
reports that his body condition looks good.
Very Important: DO NOT CHASE
BILLY! Not only to stop from spooking him into traffic, but also to
give him time to settle into an area, a routine we can take advantage of.
If he picks an area to call "his", we may be able to (with enough willing
volunteers) then surround and somehow get him to change his mind about
being "in the wild".
Instead of chasing him,
try to herd him into an
enclosed area or try to lead him into an enclosed place -- he may follow
at a distance.
If you have seen Billy or can help in the search, please
call
Lisa at 703-819-4786,
Linda at 703-470-7981,
Rob at 703-395-2259,
or call
Tammy (HART) at

with recent sightings of Billy
Billy is a small Beagle mix, mostly black and brown, about 4 years old.
He was wearing a red collar with tags, but the collar may have come off.
Billy has been seen in the N. George Mason and Wilson Blvd. areas of
Arlington, and there have been several sightings in Upton Hill Park,
Patrick Henry Apts., and the Bluemont Park area. There have been
possible sightings near Lubber Run Park and near Wakefield High School and Barcroft Park.
Billy is very shy and timid, but
he will not bite. He is terrified of men. If you see him,
please do not chase him -- he is more afraid of people than cars and he
may run into traffic to get away. Try to herd him into an enclosed area or
try to lead him into an enclosed place -- he may follow at a distance.
Note that Billy is primarily black and brown. He has no white on his
back and shoulders.

Jack - missing since 12/26/07

Update
2/21/08: Possible sighting of Jack last Monday at the corner of R and
Eckington NE. A website is now devoted to the
search
for Jack! Check it out for the latest updates, maps, photos,
and contact info if you have seen Jack or would like to help out by
joining a search party.
Update 1/18/08: Possible sighting
of Jack at Haines Point area on 1/16 at 8:50 am. The sighting:
"Granted I only saw this dog from a distance, but Wednesday (1/16/08)
morning on the yellow line crossing the bridge at approx. 8:50am I saw a dog with similar markings in a grassy area by the Metro tunnel. We were crossing from Virgina to DC and the dog was on the left hand side of the
train."
Per Jack's family: "We drove by this area yesterday afternoon around 5:00 PM. I spoke with two Park Police and explained what were had heard and that we were looking for our dog. I gave them my information and phone number in case they were to find any dogs roaming. We searched all around this area as best we could and considering it was raining and snowing. We called out his name for several minutes but there was no movement at all. We drove all around Haines Point area with the window down but did not see anything except for geese. I will be heading out to this area around lunch time on my bike. There are a few facilities in the vacinity that belong to a construction company, The Tour Mobile Company, and The Park Police Service. We looked around the perimeter but were not able to speak with anyone.
This area is approximately 4 miles distance from our home. It could be a possibility that Jack could have wandered over to this area. I think with the unseasonable temperatures we have been experiencing, he could easily travel at night. There were fireworks on New Years Eve which could have forced him away from our surrounding neighborhoods. The only thing is that I am not sure how much food is available that would keep him interested in hiding out over there. It is very quiet and serene over there and lots of
room to move around without people."
Update 1/2/08: Read the WJLA News Story about Jack.
HART dog lost in DC!
The owner was walking Jack, a former HART dog, when both were
surprised by a mean dog and meaner owner. The mean owner
dropped the leash so the mean dog could attack Jack. Jack's
owner tried to break up the dog fight, but then the mean owner got mad and beat
Jack's owner! Jack was so frightened, he slipped his collar and has
not been seen again.
Jack is a Beagle/Hound mix, roughly 50 lbs, tri colored, has an NDR tattoo
but no collar and no tags (he slipped his collar during the attack).
Jack was last seen on 12/26/07 at 4:30 PM at the intersection of 6th
Street NW and Q Street NW heading towards North Capital Street.
If you have seen Jack, please call
HART at
703-691-4278, 703-560-1006, or 703-242-6551.

Foxy
Lady has been found safe!
1/7/08:
Last update! Foxy entered the trap between 7 and 7:45 pm last night, made a quick
trip to get checked by a vet and is now resting safer than ever at home!
Huge thanks to all!
The end of a long day-
As most know, the morning did not goes as planned. Foxy was a no show!
However, just after some folks left, Foxy did pop out only to vanish just
as fast!
Earlier in the afternoon we got permission to set the HART trap in the
"safe area". Around 5 pm the trap was in place. A few checks
on an empty trap left us thinking maybe today was not the day. Several of
us planned to meet later at 8PM; a time when a lot of folks reported
seeing Foxy on her evening jaunts.
While waiting for others, a small group of us thought to take a quick walk
around. As we passed a path cut in the thick underbrush to allow the
trap to be placed, we decided to check on the trap before rejoining the
others. As we walked into the safe area in the muddy, swampy dark we
first saw fresh paw prints on a towel; excitement turned to outright joy
as a flashlight beam revealed two eyes peering back at us from the now
closed trap. It was Foxy! Sitting just as calmly as could be!
A quick trip to the local emergency room just to be sure all was well with
Foxy showed that she had lots of ticks and a few abrasions but nothing she
won't recover from in a few days. The most remarkable thing is what Dr.
Angel told us. When asked what Foxy's weight now was, we were all
shocked to learn she actually GAINED weight (around 5 lbs!) while leading
us all on a merry chase!
As of 11 pm, Foxy was back at her home safe, dry and warm!
Again, a very big thanks to all who have helped in the last few weeks and
especially today! Have a safe and wonderful week! Tammy
And a special Thank You from Foxy's
family:
To all the volunteers over the
past 2 months who have helped to search for Foxy Lady,
The Iodice family (Linda, Chris, Jen, Salem, Tinkerbell, Honey and Foxy
Lady) wish to send a HUGE THANKS to everyone. Your emotional, physical and
time support made this happy homecoming a reality. To know that there are
caring people who will come out in the rain, snow and freezing
temperatures to help bring a poor misguided animal home is truly amazing.
Again, our deepest thanks to all who helped be they on the frontlines or
behind the scenes keeping the information flowing.
There is going to be one big cookout party when the weather warms up...see
everyone there. The dogs who helped will get their own SPECIAL treats!
Again, THANKS A MILLION!
Linda
