Duke is a big dog in a small body. Most people are attracted to small dogs so they can carry them around and cuddle with them. In Duke's case, this demand on him has led to some of his unwanted behavior. His temperament needs a strong, kind, consistent leader who will challenge him, gain his respect and ultimately his trust. His foster family is providing a safe, quiet home along with professional training and rehabilitation. They have made great strides in Duke's progress. He loves to go on walks. He heels like best in show. He will keep you company by staying right beside you in his bed whether you are cooking, cleaning, watching TV or working in your office. He takes gentle corrections well, and is beginning to recover quickly when startled. He was very hand shy in the beginning, but now trusts more every day. Duke is a work in progress.
