Alfie came to HART from a commercial breeder where he has never known humans to be loving or affectionate. In fact, during his first vet visit in 8 years, it was discovered that he had somehow lived with a broken jaw ever since he was a puppy. It took 3 major surgeries and removal of some of his teeth to fix the problem once and for all. He's now in great health while enjoying a small following of adoring vet techs at the hospital where he was treated.

Somewhere between surgeries, Alfie discovered all the joys of being a house pet: all the regular feedings, affection, pillows and blankets to burrow in, sleeping undisturbed and walking on a leash. Around the second month he found his own voice and will now bark to welcome you home. Still working on a concept of barking at strangers. He is crate and pad trained and is meticulously clean. Is very intelligent, very quick learner if a bit reserved. Not a high energy dog, he nonetheless enjoys a good run around a dog park when it's not too crowded. Still learning to walk up/down the hardwood stairs, so prefers to be carried, if you don't mind. Travels well in a car as long as he knows you're near. Is very unobtrusive with other dogs and cats. Enjoys routine, will come when called, loves surprise snacks. But most of all, now that the jaw pain and the fear of humans are gone, what Alfie loves most is curling up next to you on the couch to feel your love and warmth.
