Although he is a young dog, Owen has "old soul" eyes. This sweet, gentle dog has seen more misery than any creature should, and he has cheated death more than once. Initially picked up as a stray, the shelter staff was elated when his owner came to claim him. Months later, he was brought to the shelter with several other dogs, all in poor condition. Owen was painfully thin, every rib and vertebrae sticking out. The other dogs went to rescues, but poor Owen was left behind. The owner kept coming back to "visit" Owen, but the shelter staff could see he made Owen anxious, and they discovered the owner had been charged with animal cruelty, and not just for starving the dogs, but the charges were later dropped. Afraid the "owner" would try to again claim sweet Owen, the shelter staff was determined to get him away from the area and safely into rescue. Only HART answered their plea. We are so glad we did.

Owen is sweet, gentle, quiet, and good with everyone. He is housetrained and crate trained. Owen would benefit from positive obedience training to teach him what you expect of him and build his confidence. He loves other dogs and would really like, and benefit from, having a confident dog as a companion. Owen is making great strides in his foster home. He wants only to be spoken to with a soft voice, petted with a gentle hand, protected from hunger and thirst, treated kindly. Not too much to ask. And in return, Owen will love you with all his heart.
