Sarge - adopted - Adopted on 9/8/2015

Sarge is one of the survivor types who has experienced great adversity in his young life but maintained a wonderful attitude. Adopted as a puppy about 4 months old into a family with three boys in rural SWVA, he was immediately tied to a tree without protection from the elements. The 11 year old boy was to be his caregiver, but the mother never monitored the care and consequently Sarge was usually without water, got spotty meals and remained tied to the tree 24 hours a day usually wrapped tightly around it. I'm impressed with the progress he's made in training since being rescued by a GS. He's an overall outright friendly boy from the moment he sees you. Once the initial excitement of greeting is over he walks well on the leash and is quite good about not jumping on people. Since he's had no other dogs to play with at his young age he does become eager to meet a new doggie friend and that's when he gets to pulling on the leash. At 45# I was easily able to handle him but I imagine he would play till he dropped at first. He greeted our male and female dogs with front end down and back end up, ready to play. So cute!
